Below is a joint statement from Paducah Mayor George Bray and McCracken County Judge Executive Craig Clymer:
In June of 2017, Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership, LLC (FRNP), owned by Jacobs, Fluor and BWXT, received a 10-year contract valued at approximately $1.5 billion to perform deactivation and remediation work at the U.S. Department of Energy Site in West McCracken County, Kentucky.
This $1.5 billion contract had a 5-year base period, which has been completed, a 3-year Option, which FRNP is currently executing, and a 2-year option.
We are pleased that DOE recently decided to exercise the 2-year Option period on FRNP’s contract. Exercising this option provides stability and certainty in our community because of the continuity of this contract. Just as important as the stability is the investment in our economy, which is estimated to be more than $300 million over 2026 and 2027. There are few industries in our community that inject $300 million into our community in such a short period. This investment also has a significant spin-off value with many local businesses supporting the cleanup efforts as well.
FRNP has been an excellent community partner since they started work in 2017, previously receiving the business of the year from the Chamber of Commerce. They are heavily involved in the community and contribute to several important community causes.
We look forward to the continued cleanup at the DOE site and FRNP’s partnering on the future reindustrialization plans being led by the Chamber of Commerce.
