Crews with PCC Sports will begin mobilizing on Tuesday, May 30 to construct pickleball courts at Noble Park. The project includes the construction of an eight-court pickleball facility with amenities including fencing around the courts, lighting, shade structures, benches, and sidewalks. The courts will be constructed across from the Noble Park tennis courts and on the east side of the park’s inner roadway.
Mayor George Bray said, “The request to add pickleball courts was one of the first things that I heard from citizens when I was elected Mayor. These high-quality courts will be an asset for the community as the sport of pickleball grows in popularity. Providing amenities such as these courts are elements that improve the quality of life for our citizens and make Paducah an attractive destination for tourists and tournament organizers."
Parks & Recreation Department Director Amie Clark said, “Paducah Parks and Recreation has been working to support pickleball in our community as we saw the enthusiasm for this sport grow over the past several years. In 2019, Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Convention and Expo Center hosted our first Paddle Up Pickleball Tournament inside the Dome. In 2022 and again this year, we partnered to host pickleball leagues. Now, we are constructing eight dedicated pickleball courts for the public’s use at Noble Park. It’s a great time to live and play in Paducah as we work to provide great programming and quality facilities.”
The construction of the post-tension concrete pickleball courts requires a 28-day curing process. Site preparation and the pouring of the concrete will occur first. After the curing process, the contractor will install the court surface, fencing, and other amenities. The project is expected to be completed in early August.
During construction, crews will work to maintain the public’s access to the roadways inside Noble Park. However, there may be brief road closures inside the park. Crews will be using the parking areas on the east side of the lake and near Shelter 1 for work vehicles. The construction of the courts also will require the movement of concrete trucks and other large pieces of equipment through the park. Please use caution and watch for the crews and large pieces of equipment.
The project to improve the outer loop roadway and stormwater drainage on the east side of the park will be completed next week with seeding of the soil to occur early this fall.
