ribbon cutting celebrationThe public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for new features at the Pat & Jim Brockenborough Rotary Health Park.  The ceremony to celebrate the opening of the splashpad and restrooms will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 29 at the park located at 421 North 13th Street in the historic Fountain Avenue Neighborhood. These latest amenities opened to the public on August 15.

Parks & Recreation Department Director Mark Thompson says, “This ribbon cutting is to celebrate the incredible generosity of Mrs. Pat Brockenborough in honoring her late husband, Jim, and her devotion to Paducah.  Mrs. Brockenborough’s $500,000 donation was instrumental in making this phase of the park which includes the splashpad and the restrooms a reality.”

Thompson adds, “This park is a true community park that focuses on fun and fitness.  Partnerships and community input have steered the development of the Health Park.  Children helped design the playground which was built by volunteers.  Plus, grants and donations from several organizations have funded a large portion of the construction.”

The Pat & Jim Brockenborough Rotary Health Park includes the following features: splashpad, restrooms, Paducah Rotary Playground, challenge course, fitness area, 1/3 mile walking trail, community garden, and grassy lawn.  The park also includes lighting, water fountains, and benches.
