What is the Southside Rise & Shine?
This award-winning initiative was held during the summer of 2021.
Southside Rise & Shine Event Recap
Since beautification emerged as one of the themes from the March 2021 neighborhood meetings, the City team has established the Southside Rise & Shine Neighborhood Spruce Up events. Each of the eight Southside neighborhoods will be the center of attention for one week starting in June 2021.
City resources from the Public Works Department will be available throughout a neighborhood’s week providing additional garbage rollouts and dumpster locations for large items. Each neighborhood is encouraged to collect litter and work to beautify homes and yards.
Sunday Celebration: Each week-long cleaning event for a neighborhood will end on Sunday, 1-4 p.m., with volunteering and a neighborhood ice cream social.
Which Neighborhood is Mine?
The Southside Rise & Shine events will focus on eight neighborhoods. During your week look for the This is Your Week signs posted around your neighborhood.
If you don't know the name of your neighborhood, click the button to search by address.
What should I do during my Neighborhood's Week?
- Pick up litter.
- Put litter and household garbage in yellow rollouts and dumpsters scattered around the neighborhood.
- Put bulky items, tires, appliances, and brush/leaves/limbs in front of home next to the street for FREE collection by Public Works. Note: We cannot pick up household hazardous waste. Call Public Works at 270-444-8511 to let us know you have items for collection. Guidelines for Garbage and Brush Collection
- Volunteer to help neighbors with yardwork and moving garbage curbside or to dumpsters.
- Volunteer and celebrate with us on Sunday, 1-4 p.m., at the end of your week. Help pick up litter, meet your neighbors, enjoy an ice cream social, and more!
- Thank the community partners who made Rise & Shine possible.
Community Partners
We cannot say thank you enough to all of the community partners who jumped in to make Southside a priority.
Sunday Celebration Partner - COMMUNITY FINANCIAL SERVICES BANK (CFSB) - CFSB is helping to organize the Sunday celebration events and providing the wonderful refreshments for the ice cream social.
Volunteers and Recycling of Appliances - LOWE'S and HOUSING AUTHORITY OF PADUCAH - Lowe's (most are our local store employees) and Housing Authority of Paducah are providing volunteers who are eager to help pick up litter and beautify the neighborhoods. Plus, all of the appliances that get picked up will be recycled by Lowe's.
Residents, Agencies, and Businesses - Thank you to every resident and business owner working to help fellow neighbors and shine a beautiful light on the Southside. Thank you to all of the agencies who have reached out to provide information and resources for the Sunday Celebrations and the Rise & Shine initiative.
